About Deutsche Bahn

Deutche Bahn is a German transport company founded in 1994 and headquartered in Berlin. It is the largest rail carrier in Germany.

Deutsche Bahn uses the following types of trains:

  • Intercity Express (ICE)
  • Intercity (IC) and Eurocity (EC)
  • Interegio-Express (IRE), Regional-Express (RE), Regionalbahn (RB) and S-Bahn

Tickets with Deutsche Bahn

You can buy tickets via the carrier's website. Alternatively, you can use our cheap ticket finder, which will also compare prices from competing companies.

Deutsche Bahn operates rail transport throughout Germany as well as German public transport. It also provides long-distance services throughout Europe.

The Intercity Express trains provide services between major cities such as Berlin-Munich. Intercity trains also provide services between large and medium-sized cities and they are slower than ICE. They are therefore cheaper. Eurocity trains are used for international routes. The RE and RB trains are used for regional services.

Cheapest tickets

It pays to buy tickets well in advance. Tickets bought at the last minute are much more expensive. You can use various discount cards to get cheaper tickets. You can also get bargain tickets with Spartarifen discount fares.

Deutsche Bahn timetables

Timetables can be found on the carrier's website. Select the departure point and then download the desired timetable.

Seat reservations with Deutsche Bahn

For greater comfort on long-distance lines, we recommend booking a seat in advance to avoid standing and enjoy the journey sitting comfortably. Reservations are charged at a price of EUR 4 / USD 4 / GBP 3. You can book your seat online - make your reservation here. You can also make a reservation at a vending machine in the departure hall.

Seat reservations are also available for some regional routes for a fee of just EUR / USD / GBP 1. You can make your reservation when you buy your ticket at the ticket machine. For information on the routes, on which it is possible to reserve a seat, click here.

Food and drink with Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn allows on-board sales on long-distance routes. On IC and EC trains you can buy snacks and drinks.
