Leo Express

In 2012, the Czech railway and bus carrier Leo Express was established. On Czech lines, this transport company has trains of the InterCity category. Leo Express has already managed to grow, as in 2017 it acquired the German railway company Locomore.

Leo Express is actively working on the development of connecting transport in cities along its route so that it can provide its passengers with the easiest possible transport to their destination.

With the issues of service cancellations that have arisen due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the company has come up with a novelty in the form of a Departure Guarantee. Leo Express guarantees 14 days in advance that all services will run. If the situation deteriorates again and services do not run, it will refund 150% of the price to its customers.

Leo Express buses going to Krakow, Warsaw, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, Dresden, Lviv, and Mukachevo connect to the train timetables in Prague, Bohumín, and Košice in Slovakia.

Cheapest Tickets

Leo Express offers 75% discount for children, students, and seniors. This discount can be redeemed on both Leo Express trains and buses in the Czech Republic. It is valid for children up to 17 years old, students up to 25 years old, seniors over 65 years old, and holders of ZTP and ZTP/P (disability) cards.

Leo Express also offers discounts for early purchases, the so-called promo tickets. These are available when purchased well in advance and also on connections that are not as busy. They cannot be combined with other discounts. Leo also offers a discount of 20% on return tickets (information here) and a group discount of 20% (more information here).

Purchasing Tickets

Tickets can be easily purchased online directly on the Leo Express website. Once you have searched for the desired connection, the individual options are displayed with all the relevant information (price, departure and arrival times, journey times, and the number of tickets available in each class). There is no need to print the ticket, just show it directly from the email.

Tickets to Croatia

There is a direct bus connection to the popular seaside destination with prices from EUR 50 / GBP 43 / USD 55. Buses depart every Friday from Prague, Brno, and Mikulov and return on Saturday.

For families with children or for groups of friends, a 20% group discount is available. A 20% discount on return tickets can be used when purchasing return tickets at the same time.

Reserving seats on the Leo Express website is very simple and intuitive. When selecting a connection, you can see immediately in its details how many seats are available in which class. This allows us to choose a travel class in the next step without having to worry about not having enough seats in that class. In the next step, the third step, we come to reserve seats. For example, if you are traveling by train, you select the carriage you want and you can choose your preferred seat for free.

Finally, after recapping your selection, just proceed to the final step, payment, and enjoy your journey with Leo Express.

Leo Express offers compensation for delays even if the delay is not caused by the carrier. The amount of compensation depends on the length of the delay. Passengers are entitled to compensation for a delay of 60 minutes or more.

• 60 - 119 minutes = 25% of the fare
• Above 120 minutes = 50% of the fare
• Cancelled connection = 100% of the fare

How to claim compensation

On the website, you need to download a form which you need to fill in and send to refund@le.cz or by post to Leo Express a. s., Ad. Mickiewicze 67, 735 81 Bohumín.

Luggage transport

Each passenger may take a maximum of 2 pieces of luggage and their weight must not exceed 30 kg, combined. Smaller luggage must be placed in the compartment above the seat. Dedicated spaces are available for larger luggage in all classes of travel. In Premium Class, there is also a coat hanger.

Bicycle transport

Bicycles can be taken on all trains and some buses. The Leo Express system will automatically check availability according to the current status. The price for transporting one bicycle starts from GBP 1.60 / USD 2 / EUR 1,9 and it is recommended to purchase the service as soon as possible.

Ski and snowboard transport

Ski and snowboards can be transported on all trains and buses from November to March each year. The price of transport is the same as for bikes and each passenger can transport a maximum of 1 pair of skis or 1 snowboard. Again, the system can check the availability according to the current status and it is recommended to purchase the service as soon as possible.

Stroller transport

Leo Express carries strollers free of charge on both trains and buses. The trains are low-floor, so there is no problem with transportation. On buses, the stroller is carried as luggage in the luggage compartment. In addition, a changing table can be used on the train. When selecting the passengers, simply tick that your child is travelling with a stroller and the system will check if there is still room for the stroller on the specific train or bus connection.

Transportation of orthopaedic wheelchairs

Transportation of people using an orthopaedic wheelchair is only possible on train services. The wheelchair is transported free of charge. In addition, a wheelchair-accessible toilet may be used during the journey.

Dog transport

Dogs must be kept in a crate or in a bag with an impermeable bottom, the size of which does not exceed 40 x 50 x 50 cm (15,7 x 19,7 x 19,7 inches). The box should fit under each seat. Dogs that do not fit in this box cannot be transported. Exceptions are assistance dogs.

Leo Express does not currently offer any discount codes.

Leo Express: Travel in Style

The Leo Express app allows you to manage everything around tickets (create an order, pay, keep track of all your routes, cancel tickets). Additionally, it offers to keep track of current traffic information, which can be convenient if your connection is running late. You can follow the connection on the route and have an overview of what time it will arrive.

Tickets can be canceled at any time up to 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure of the connection. So if something has changed and the date or time of your journey no longer suits you, visit this website and enter the required details from your ticket (it clearly describes where and what to look for).

Money will be refunded depending on the form, in which you paid for it (Leo credits, credit card, bank transfer, at Leo Express ticket offices and contractual partners, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Twisto, Mall Pay).

Smile Club is a loyalty program that rewards its members based on actual money paid. The currency of Smile Club is Leo Credit. In Leo Credits, Leo Express pays you rewards called cashback for fares traveled or compensation for delays.

One Leo Credit equals one Czech Crown. Leo credits can be used to pay fares or purchase any menu item on board. The ticket can also be canceled free of charge in form od Leo Credit. Any payment with Leo Credit will also earn you cashback.

Cashback

Cashback is the portion of the ticket price that is returned to your Smile Club account in the form of Leo credits after the ticket has been used. This is subject to prior registration with the Smile Club and completion of at least one ride. Depending on how much you spend or how many Leo credits you have with Leo Express, you will be placed in one of four loyalty categories.

Children, pupils, students, and seniors who are also Smile Club members will receive 25% cashback of the total ticket amount in Leo credits as a bonus after each ride. This reward does not stack with the cashback for tickets ridden, but you will always receive the higher cashback rate.

Freedom Categories

After each trip, a portion of the price will be refunded in Leo Credits according to your current loyalty category, so you can ride cheaper next time. The more you travel with Leo Express, the bigger the rewards waiting for you. Higher loyalty categories can be achieved immediately after purchasing tickets, catering, or by topping up your Leo Credits.

There are four loyalty categories:

1. Orange (CZK 1-999 spent / GBP 0,4-33 / USD 0,5-42 / EUR 0,4-39): 2.5% cashback
2. Bronze (CZK 1,000-2,999 / GBP 33-99 / USD 42-127 / EUR 39-116): 5% reward
3. Silver (CZK 3,000-7,999 / GBP 99-265 / USD 127-341 / EUR 116-310): 7.5% reward
4. Gold (CZK 10,000 and more / GBP 265 and more / USD 341 and more / EUR 310 and more): 10% reward
