About Renfe

Renfe is a Spanish railway company founded in 2005 and headquartered in Madrid. Renfe provides connections between the most popular destinations in Spain on approximately 12,000 km (7456 miles) of railway lines. Most of these are specific wide "Iberian gauge".

Renfe also operates several high-speed routes, on which trains reach speeds up to 350 km/h (280 mph). In addition to intercity services, the carrier also operates several suburban trains, known as Cercanías.

Tickets with Renfe

Renfe's routes

Renfe operates not only intercity trains, but also suburban trains, which can be found in Madrid or Barcelona, for example.

As for intercity lines, these are further divided into long-distance high-speed AVE and medium-speed Avant routes. AVE trains run between Madrid and Seville, Madrid and Barcelona, or from Madrid to Valencia, for example. Avant lines carry passengers on routes such as Madrid - Toledo, Barcelona - Girona or Málaga - Cordoba.

Discount codes

Renfe offers a rich list of discounts and bonuses to choose from. For example, passengers aged 12-24 or 60+ can travel for less. Groups of travelers also get a discount.

Food and drink with Renfe

If you travel Premium on AVE* or Euromed trains (except on the Ave Madrid - León route), you are entitled to free refreshments according to the time of day. Otherwise, you must purchase food and drink at the food bar, which is included on most trains.

If you have a dietary restriction or are suffering from any food intolerance, you must provide this information at least 24 hours prior to departure in order for the carrier to arrange alternative meals.
