<h3>Online check-in</h3>
You can check in online 24 - 1.5 hours before departure. Use either the <a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.united.com/en/us/checkin" target="_blank">website</a> or the United mobile app (<a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.united.mobile.android&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=US" target="_blank">Android</a>, <a rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/united-airlines/id449945214" target="_blank">iOS</a>). There, you enter the booking code and your name. You will need your passport to check in. You just need to have the ticket with the barcode saved on your phone. Sometimes it is not possible to check in online, in that case use the airport check-in.
<h3>Airport check-in</h3>
Arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure for international flights and 2 hours before departure for domestic flights. You can check in at the airport no later than 60 minutes before departure for international flights and 45 minutes for domestic flights.

With carry-on baggage, it depends where you're going, which class and fare you're flying.
Basic Economy: When flying across the ocean or to/from Central or South America, you can have two pieces of luggage 22 x 35 x 56 cm / 8,7 x 13,8 x 22 in and 22 x 25 x 43 cm / 8,7 x 9,8 x 16,9 in + personal items (book, jacket, items purchased at the airport, camera).
Basic Economy: On other flights, you are allowed two pieces of luggage 22 x 25 x 43 cm.
Economy: In this class you are entitled to two pieces of luggage 22 x 35 x 56 cm and 22 x 25 x 43 cm + personal items.
Business: In Business Class you are entitled to two pieces of luggage 22 x 35 x 56 cm and 22 x 25 x 43 cm + personal items.
If your carry-on baggage is larger, you must check it in and pay a minimum of €27 / $30 / £22 + a fee of €22 / $25 / £18 for checked baggage.

Food service depends on the length of the flight. On domestic flights you will only receive a small snack (chips) + drinks, the rest is at extra cost. On long-haul flights, you get a classic hot meal, beer, wine + drinks.
Other services include WIFi for a fee on selected flights. On international long-haul flights you get free movie watching, on domestic flights within America, even with longer distances, everything is charged and you have to entertain yourself.

Caution, not all ticket types allow cancellation. For Basic Economy, you can only cancel your ticket free of charge within 24 hours of purchase, if it was purchased at least one week before departure.
If you have a ticket that allows cancellation, you will receive either a refund or a credit for the cancelled ticket, which you can use to purchase another ticket. The credit is valid for 12 months only.
