Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
A quick and inexpensive option is to travel on the DLR train, which takes you directly from the airport to nearby Canning Town or Bank tube stations, from which you can continue on to central London by tube. Alternatively, you can continue on the train to Stratford. Bank tube station is connected to central London (Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, etc.) by three different underground lines.
Trains from the airport run every 15 minutes and connections to the centre take about 30 minutes. A one-way ticket costs around GBP 5 and can be purchased directly at the train station. The advantage is that you can then use the same ticket to take the metro. It is also possible to buy a day ticket for GBP 6.5.
If you are visiting London for a longer period of time and plan to use public transport on a regular basis, we recommend you get an Oyster card, which is valid in all zones and types of public transport. You can buy the card online at this link, directly at the airport or at almost all metro stops.
