Transport from Madeira Airport to Funchal city centre
Madeira Airport is located less than 20 km from Funchal. You have several options for transport to the city centre or to your hotel.

Car hire
The most flexible transportation will be provided by car rental. You can easily get not only from the airport to town, but also travel comfortably around the island. We recommend early booking, thanks to which you can save significantly. Compare offers here.
Shuttle service to your hotel
If you prefer convenience at a reasonable price, we highly recommend the Holidaytaxis shuttle service. There will be a bus or minibus waiting for you at the airport to take you from the airport directly to your hotel for a few Euros more than if you were to take public transport to your hotel. The bus you book in advance is guaranteed - if you arrive later, it will wait for you.
Aerobus
A quick way to get around is the Aerobus (schedule and map here), which takes you into the centre and has its terminus just outside town, at the famous Praia Formosa beach. It also stops at many hotels along the way. A one-way ticket costs €5 (children €2.5) and the journey takes approximately 30-50 minutes (depending on where you're going).
Taxi
The most convenient option is to use the Gettransfer service. A ride can be booked online and you know the price in advance. Alternatively, you can try to offer your own price that you are willing to pay. Drivers are often nicer and more helpful than traditional taxi drivers. A child car seat can also be arranged on request. If you forget anything in the car, the driver can be traced and contacted. Prices start at EUR 15. You can also use classic taxis, where prices start at EUR 20. Uber also operates in Madeira.
Bus
The cheapest option is the local buses (lines 113, 20, 208, 53), for which you will pay the sum of 3.35 EUR. Timetables and other details can be found here. However, buses do not run very often.
