Metro to Miami
From the airport, you can take the MIA Mover (the airport's automated train) that will take you within three minutes to Miami Central Station. Here you can transfer to the subway, bus, or pick up a car. The MIA Mover is a free shuttle service running 24/7.
From the station, you'll take the Metrorail Orange Line. If you want to go to downtown Miami, you'll need to transfer (at either Government Centeri or Brickell station) to the Metromover, which will take you to downtown Miami. Total travel time is about 30 minutes, and the subway runs from 5 am to midnight.
To get around Miami via the Metro, you must purchase an EASY Card, which you top up with cash to pay for tickets. The card costs $2 to set up and can be made here.
A one-way ticket costs $2.25, a one-day ticket costs $6.65, and a 7-day ticket costs $29.25. If you transfer from the subway to the bus (or vice versa), there is a $0.6 fee.
Bus to Miami Beach
If you want to go to Miami Beach, it's better to choose the Miami Beach Airport Express bus (Metrobus line 150) also running from Miami Airport Station. This line runs every 20 minutes from 6 am to 11:40 pm and the fare is $2.25 (payable with cash or EASY Card).
Train to Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach
From Miami Airport Station, you can also travel by Tri-Rail to Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. The train runs several times per hour and fares range from $5 to $9.

Car hire
From our own experience, we most recommend renting a car. Without it, you can hardly get to many places. The prices are very reasonable and you might consider renting a Mustang. It takes about 20 minutes to get from the airport to downtown Miami by car, depending on the current traffic situation.

Taxi
The most convenient option is to use the services of Gettransfer. You know the fare in advance and tickets can be booked online. Drivers tend to be nicer than in traditional taxis and, for example, a child seat can be provided on request. Alternatively, you can choose a classic taxi or an Uber.
